Virtual Talk with Author Patti Posner Online
Much has been written about the Catskill Mountains resort experience. While the hotels were indeed as wonderful as many novels and histories describe them, this book is different. It tells a sometimes piercingly honest story of the family that owned the Hotel Brickman. It is a tale of strained family relations as Brickman’s and Posner’s ran the hotel over its 74 year history. But this story also is about deep familial love, hard work, commitment and a winding path to self-knowledge. Patti Posner, the boss’s daughter reveals (and thus preserves) the day-to-day life and inner workings of this now vanished world of the Catskills.
The Hotel Brickman was one of the most successful Catskills resorts in its era. A true family-run hotel, the Brickman started as the Pleasant Valley Farm that took in boarders to make ends meet. It was taken over by Anna and Joseph Posner, the founder's daughter and son-in-law, and became the Brickman Hotel, which would eventually become a highly successful resort in the Catskills. The granddaughter of Anna and Joseph, Ms. Posner grew up in the hotel during this golden era. Her book, "My View From the Mountains: a Catskill Memoir" is a tale of a family strained by business and secrets, but held together through love, hard work, and committment.
Join Lynn Skolnick, former president of the library's board of trustees, as she and Patti Posner discuss the book and the Hotel Brickman. This author talk is taking place virtually via Zoom as Ms. Posner currently resides in North Carolina.
