Bach to Blues to Jazz - Alex Prizgintas, Classical Cellist In-Person
With his new branding of “Uber Arts: Delivering Food for the Soul,” recently awarded a grant by the Arts Mid-Hudson organization, the twelve cello programs of Alex Prizgintas are frequently shown across the Hudson Valley. Ranging from titles as abstract for a classical instrument as the British Invasion and American Rock, much of his work remains tied to the baroque compositions of J.S. Bach. "In many ways, Bach was the original jazz artist and this program seeks to make that connection” says Alex, who will be debuting his latest program, Bach to Blues to Jazz. "Traveling from Bach's Suite No.2 Prelude on through the modern Jazz Ambassadors such as Dizzy Gillespie and Dave Brubeck to even some rock/blues classics from the Animals and Led Zeppelin.” This program offers a great sampling of jazz lofty standards and connections through musical history."
The unique sound of Alex Prizgintas and his amplified cello will be part of the Ethelbert B. Crawford Library in Monticello, NY on Monday, February 3rd at 6:00 PM. Classically trained, he employs non-classical tools like distortion, delay, and the iconic “wah-wah” guitar pedals symbolic of 1960s Rock n’ Roll bands--all in conjunction with a looping station. Equally comfortable with intimate and stadium settings, Alex is able to craft his own wall-of-sound through his 1,000 watt amp. Accompanied with a narration that reveal some of the back stories of baroque, jazz, folk, and Rock n’ Roll classics, he immerses his audience in a journey through musical history.
