Oliver King presents “The Lessons of the Hour” By Frederick Douglass In-Person
Presentation via ZOOM
In honor of Frederick Douglass’ 204th Birthday and to celebrate Black History Month, local actor and playwright Oliver King performs excerpts from one of Douglass’ most electrifying orations entitled “The Lessons of the Hour”.
This speech was originally delivered at the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. January 9, 1894. Douglass focuses on lynching, suffrage and colonization and refutes the premise that African-Americans were responsible for the racial tensions in our country at that time.
