County Historian John Conway Presents Virtually: ‘The Kate Project’

County Historian John Conway Presents Virtually: ‘The Kate Project’ Online

This ZOOM presentation by John Conway dives into what is known as "The Kate Project". Spearheaded by Delaware Company Executive Director, Debra Conway, “The Kate Project” will add a half-mile extension of the towpath along the Delaware River just south of Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct, adding benches, and signage. The project has been in the planning stage for nearly two years, and ongoing fundraising efforts have landed three substantial grants - and a number of smaller donations – which enabled the physical work that began mid-December 2021.

This project was inspired, in part, by the romanticized “On the Towpath” painting of E.L. Henry, which shows a young child leading a team of mules alongside the canal while she tows a boat behind her.
